Monsters

Does every child go through a phase of being scared of monsters? Where do monsters come from in their minds? Matthew has recently started this phase. It started about the time he started stalling at bedtime. It's hard to know if he's really scared or not - or if he's just stalling. He'll be scared of them at random other times too. Sometimes when we pull in the garage he won't want to get out of the car because he thinks there are monsters inside the house. It's so goofy! So when he's scared, sometimes we pray, but most of the time we sing the "God is bigger than the boogie man" song from Veggie Tales. For some reason, it works. We finish singing it and he says "No more monsters" and is content. Why that works, I have no idea. Here are the words to the song if you don't know it:
God is bigger than the boogie man. He's bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV. Oh, God is bigger than the boogie man and he's watching out for you and me.

I talked to another mom recently and she told me that they leave little Christmas trees in their kids rooms year round because they scare away the monsthers. Hey, whatever works, right?

What do you do for your kids to scare away the monsters?

Our 5 year old niece is a scardy cat, too. They made "Boo Juice," which is just a spray bottle full of water that she can spray around her when to scare away the monsters. But she had a good time "cooking" the juice (boiling the water) and decorating her sprayer. Yep, whatever works...
